It serves a distinct purpose - to tell you what the car is doing, so if it is subtle, it's not doing its job well, IMO. The forces felt through the wheel might be very close to realistic this way, but I don't think the point of FFB in sims is to be the most realistic, it should help the driver drive the car the best it can.
